When Wen started working at a veterinary clinic in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, she took her two Scotties, Corky and Duffy, there for veterinary services and she also had them groomed there. The groomer was a lady who had quite a colorful personality and she would sing along with her radio and talk to the dogs as she worked on them. Many times, she would make up silly nicknames for her clients’ dogs as she groomed them and she began calling Corky by the name “Corkala.”
One day, the door to the grooming area was left open and you could hear the groomer talking and singing all the way to the lobby. As she was working on Corky, she sang “Corkala Pizza” over and over in a loud operatic voice. Wen shook her head as she heard the “aria” coming from the grooming room, but it was too late—“Corkala Pizza” stuck as one of Corky’s many nicknames for the rest of her life.
