Well, I did it—I spent the day yesterday at the Edgewater Celtic Harvest Festival in the Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club booth and to Wen’s relief, everything went fine.
We got there early and she put me in the Scottiemobile (our decorated wagon) and took me for a trial ride around the park. After jumping out of the wagon multiple times, I finally caught on to the plan and rode around in the wagon as though I’d been doing it for years.
By the time that the festival started, the Scottie club booth was looking fine and the first club members and their Scotties had arrived. A nice lady volunteered to watch me for a few minutes so that Wen could take some quick photos of the booth. We Scotties stood or sat on a long table while people came by and visited with the club members. I was the only wheaten-colored Scottie there and as per usual, many people had never seen a non-black Scottie, so I got lots of attention. I can honestly say that I have never been petted so much and received so many good backscratches in my whole life! We got a really positive response from the people stopping by who were obviously serious dog lovers because they had lots of dog stories to share.
We Scotties took breaks from our meet and greet duties periodically and on one break, Wen took me for a wagon ride around the festival grounds to check out the vendors and activities. There was a variety of activities to watch throughout the day, such as dancing, live music, sheep herding, and Celtic battle re-enactments.
Before we knew it, the time had come for us to leave and my “report card” for the day added up to a success. I only got restless a few times during my meet and greet duties and okay, I did growl at one little girl early on, but I was cooperative the rest of the time and tolerated being petted by strangers and being in close proximity to other Scotties all day without a mishap.
Since my first festival appearance turned out well, it looks as though I’ll probably get to go back next year and it would be fun if Sunny and Molly went too so we wheatens could be better represented. We could rotate shifts on the table too, because I was so tired from my time at the festival that I could barely keep my eyes open during the ride home and after dinner, I crashed on the couch and was out like a light. My first festival appearance may have been a success, but afterwards, I was exhausted!
