We had a big surprise at our house the other day. Actually, it was a little surprise as Wen brought home a black female Scottie puppy.
The puppy’s name is “Sadie,” just like Sadie, the Scottie who won Westminster and she is s typical crazy puppy who is at the age of getting in her adult teeth—she bites and chews on everything! Our living room floor is covered with toys right now to keep her occupied so that she doesn’t focus on chewing our rugs and the furniture.
Sadie came from a breeder that Wen researched and since she’s five months old, she already had most of her puppy vaccinations, but of course, Wen took her to see Dr. Nina, our vet, for her Rabies vaccination and to get checked out and make sure that she’s healthy.
Sadie passed her physical with flying colors, so Wen scheduled a grooming appointment with Gigi, our favorite groomer, and now she looks like a real Scottie with her new haircut (only smaller).
Our house has sort of been turned upside down with Sadie’s arrival, but since we’ve gotten over our initial shock, we’re beginning to adjust. Sunny, who is nine years older, looks at her with disdain and basically won’t have much to do with her, but that’s just Sunny. Molly will spar with Sadie, play tug of war, and chase her around the room. She is the closest thing to a potential buddy for Sadie, because Sunny certainly isn’t and being “Mr. Aloof,” I have kept my distance too, except for one time when I inadvertently played tug of war after we both dived for the same toy.
Sunny, Molly, and I are a tight group and it’s been a real experience having a little spitfire puppy around, but we quickly figured out that we navigate the stairs easily while Sadie can barely make it up a few steps, so we can get away from her. Hopefully, some day when she’s a little older, she won’t be pestering us constantly and she will chill out and just be one of the crew. I guess that time will tell, but for now, Sunny, Molly, and I spend a lot of time on the couch, because fortunately for us, Sadie’s too little to jump up there!
