The Glittery Beard

When Wen and her husband lived in Texas, one Sunday morning they left their only Scottie, Casey, home alone while they went to church.  When they returned home, they were met at the front door by their excited Scottie.  Casey was so happy to see them, he was jumping up and down, but something about him was a little different–his beard was full of what looked like different colors of glitter.

On further inspection, Wen realized that the colorful pieces of glitter were actually tiny pieces of glass and with a sinking feeling, she checked the spare bedroom where she had put a miniature decorated Christmas tree on a bookcase.  While they were at church, Casey had pulled the tree down onto the floor and he had crunched every ornament!

The carpet was glittery with the same tiny pieces of glass that decorated Casey’s beard and it was obvious that he had really enjoyed dragging the tree around and biting the ornaments, but he had probably swallowed a lot of the glassy glitter, so Wen fed him bread with butter along with some extra food for several days to help things pass.

It turned out that Casey with his glittery beard was a lucky Scottie, because he suffered no ill effects from his ornament crunching escapade, but after that experience, Wen decided that they had better get serious about dog-proofing their house.
