When Corky was a puppy, she had a little problem with motion sickness. She seemed to be okay with short car rides, but evidently not with long ones!
One Saturday morning, Wen took Buffy, Duffy, and Corky for a car ride which lasted about an hour and when she decided to pull into a fast food drive-thru to get some lunch, Corky, who was sitting on the SUV console, looked a little odd. Just as Wen was about to get the food she had ordered, Corky started heaving and she vomited right on Duffy, who was sitting in the front passenger seat.
Buffy was riding in the back of the SUV, so she was totally unaffected, but Wen just about lost her appetite as there was a big wet cleanup needed in the front seat. It would have been an awful mess of a situation except that Duffy looked up with a puzzled “why me?” look on his face that made Wen laugh.
Another time, Wen and her family went on a road trip vacation to the Lake of the Ozarks with Buffy, Duffy, and Corky in the back of the SUV. Because of Corky’s motion sickness issue, Wen had put her in a large wire cage, while the other two dogs were loose in the car.
The trip to the lake took about three hours with stops and the highway had some long stretches with hills and curves so Wen anticipated the worst with Corky and she wasn’t disappointed!
If a wheaten Scottie could have turned green, Corky would have, because as she was sitting in her cage, she swayed back and forth and then she had a long series of vomiting episodes. It was a constant cleanup car ride for Wen and poor Corky was exhausted by the time they reached their destination. A miserable time was had by all.
Eventually, Corky outgrew her motion sickness affliction and she was able to go on long road trips the rest of her life without any problems, which made for much nicer vacations!
