One day at the veterinary clinic where she worked, Wen was called to the front desk. A lady had dropped off a dog that she had found running loose in her neighborhood and it was a Scottie. She had alerted the shelters but could not keep the dog at her house, so she had brought the dog to the nearest clinic in hopes that they could help her.
Wen took the Scottie, who unfortunately had no collar and she volunteered to keep him for the weekend and try to find his owner. She posted signs throughout the neighborhood where he had been found and hoped for the best.
Bringing a new Scottie home to her two Scotties could have been a challenge, but it actually worked out okay. Corky kept her distance, but Duffy let the visiting Scottie hang out with him and wherever he went, the new Scottie followed.
Wen tried to figure out her visitor’s name by calling him every Scottish name that she could think of, but she had no luck as he didn’t react to any of them.
By the next day, all three Scotties were getting along and as Wen and her friend were watching them, she was still puzzling over the dog’s possible name. All of a sudden, she said, “I bet his name is something weird like “Spencer,”” which was the first name that popped into her head and the Scottie looked up and ran over to her!
Surely it wasn’t possible that she had figured out his name, but since it was the only reaction he had shown to any name, she decided to call him “Spencer” for the rest of the weekend for lack of anything better.
Wen took the Scottie back to work on Monday morning and shortly after, a call came in from a lady whose Scottie had gotten out and she had seen the signs in her neighborhood. She said that she would be there in a few minutes to identify him and when she arrived, Wen could hardly wait to ask what the dog’s name was. The lady said that her Scottie’s name was “Spencer” and Wen was practically speechless!
All ended well, Spencer was reunited with his owner safe and sound, but to this day, it’s a mystery how Wen came up with his actual name out of the blue!
