My big brother, Kirby, loved to go for a ride in the car, but he had an issue with going through drive-thrus because he considered the people who were working in the drive-thru windows to be intruders to his territory.
There was one particularly nice girl who worked the drive-thru window at the bank who regularly put Milkbones in the drawer with your deposit slip when she saw that there was a dog in the car. Unfortunately, Kirby would take one look at her and start growling and barking, so Wen would have to try to distract him while they waited so that he wouldn’t look so intimidating.
Going through a fast food drive-thru was even worse because the restaurant workers sort of lean out of the window as they hand you your food and Kirby considered this to be a threat. He would turn into a barking menace and Wen would get her fast food really fast! One time, a girl actually tossed Wen’s bag of food into her car window because Kirby was growling and barking and apparently looked very scary.
For such a sweet Scottie who was a real gentleman, Kirby knew how to defend his territory and he understood it to be his job to ward off any danger to the occupants of his car.
