When he was about 10 1/2 years old, Wen decided to take Kirby along on a short vacation to Estes Park, Colorado. By that time, he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer a year prior, but still basically lived a normal life.
Kirby was a very friendly personable Scottie who enjoyed going for walks where he could meet people so one day, Wen walked him up and down Elkhorn Avenue in Estes Park as she window shopped. They came upon an old time photography shop and Wen had an idea. She asked the owner if he would possibly take a photo of Kirby so she could always remember their vacation and he said, “sure!”
The owner and his wife selected a “bandito” outfit for Kirby, dressed him up, and sat him on the floor. He posed like a pro as the owner took several photos.
Wen chose her favorite, had it framed, and thanked the couple profusely for providing a really special memento of her stay in a Estes Park with Kirby, her best buddy.
