Couch Comfort Testers

We Scotties like spending time on our living room couch and loveseat and we have all the logistics worked out.  Molly prefers to hang out by herself on one side of the loveseat or on top of a throw pillow, although she will very rarely (once or twice a month) be found stretched out next to Sadie or me.  Sadie likes to snuggle up next to me on the couch, although she will curl up by herself on both the couch and the loveseat and she also likes to jump up on the back of the couch and stretch out up there.

As for me, I like to snuggle up on the couch next to Wen as she works on her iPad and I hang out with both my sisters wherever they are lounging, plus Sadie makes a great pillow for me to rest my nose on.

Do you think Molly would ever tolerate my snuggling up to her and resting my nose on her back?  Ha!  No way!  Not gonna happen!  She likes her personal space much more than Sadie or I do, but we three have an understanding of our typical couch and loveseat usage and we never get in each other’s way.

All this sounds as if we Scotties are couch potatoes, but I like to think of us more as couch comfort testers.

The Big Voice

One of us Scotties has a big voice and she’s not afraid to use it!  Yes, my sister, Sadie can outdo Molly and me any day with her loud barking and howling.

There are two neighbor dogs behind us that really like to bark and if Wen happens to let us outside when either or both of those dogs are out and they start barking at us, Sadie will happily reply.  She will not only bark back at them, but sometimes she will howl too until both Wen and the neighbors make us all come inside.  Other neighbors probably don’t appreciate hearing a dog choir doing a rousing rendition of whatever.

Sadie is always ready and eager to use her voice and she will stand on the deck and listen for other neighborhood dogs to start a conversation.  I guess since she is small in stature, she likes to make up for it with her big voice, but as soon as Sadie starts barking or howling, Wen is just as ready and eager to put and end to any unnecessary noise!

Princess Stink Eye

Scotties are known for our expressive eyes and especially our ability to give you a scathing stink eye.  Even my sister, Molly, who is a princess type can give you a stink eye like a pro.  It’s kind of unusual to get the princess stink eye, but believe me, she can look at you with great disdain!

House Painter Intruders

We had workmen painting the exterior of our house yesterday and they’re not even close to finishing.  Today is Sunday, so we get a break, but tomorrow when they come back, we Scotties will get to spend the day in our cages again.

Since our fence gate was open, Wen had to walk us individually on our leashes in the backyard.  The workmen didn’t bother me, but when Molly spotted them, she shook like a leaf and she was terrified.  Then, when Wen walked Sadie, she barked and howled like a banshee when she got a glimpse of them.  She was so loud that Wen had to drag her back into the house.

We Scotties don’t take too well to having our routine disrupted by house painters or any other workmen.  They are intruders after all and hopefully they won’t be around our territory too much longer!

We want our yard back!

Time to Eat!

We Scotties visited our groomer, Gigi yesterday to get all spiffed up.  She did her usual fantastic job, making us look gorgeous and then Wen brought us home, where as per usual, we crashed on the couch.

The entire grooming process in a place with lots of other dogs is kind of stressful and tiring, so we are always happy to get back home and relax.  Sometimes we sleep soundly for hours after grooming, but there is one thing that gets us up and moving and that is dinner time!  Do you think we’d sleep through a meal time?  Not a chance!  Our stomachs know when it’s time to eat!

Time to eat!

Soggy Doggies

Just like that “Rainy Days and Mondays” song, it’s a wet dreary Monday and after we Scotties spent time out in the backyard, we came back in the house as soggy doggies.

It’s actually been raining or drizzling ever since the Denver Broncos lost their home opener by one point yesterday and counting the two preseason games that they also lost by one point, that’s three one point losses so far this season.  Maybe the sky over the Denver area is crying over the disappointing losses.  Regardless, we Scotties had fun outside in the wet grass.  After all, we don’t mind being soggy doggies, because the wet soft ground makes our hole digging even easier!

Rainy day Molly

Gettin’ Ready!

It’s finally football season again and the Denver Broncos play their first home game tomorrow.  We are definitely gettin’ ready for some football around here!  Since last year’s season was beyond disappointing, we’re hoping that with a new head coach and a new look, the Broncos will be an exciting team to watch this year!  Everybody get out your orange and blue!  Go Broncos!!!

Update

Here’s an update on Sadie refusing to go up the stairs to our bedroom. Wen continued to carry her upstairs, but yesterday after Molly and I had followed Wen upstairs to the bedroom, all of a sudden there was noise on the stairs and Sadie walked into the room.  After days of not making it past the landing and much whining, Sadie made it all the way upstairs by herself and she has continued to go up and down ever since, as if she had never had a bad case of stairs phobia.

Whatever caused Sadie’s phobia remains a mystery, especially since she has never had a problem going up or down before, but it’s a relief that she has finally conquered her fear and we won’t be hearing any more of her whining and carrying on.  Now we can only hope that she has totally forgotten her phobia and it remains forgotten!

The Mystery of the Stairs

My sister, Sadie is having an issue with going up the stairs from our living room to our bedroom.  Normally, she runs up and down the stairs, but lately she will only run down. Wen checked her for anything wrong, such as back pain, but there was nothing.  She tried luring Sadie up the steps by offering her treats from upstairs, but that didn’t work. Sadie would crawl up a couple steps and then run back down, so Wen placed a treat on every step and Sadie made it up to the landing, only to to turn around and run back down.  There was no way that she was going all the way upstairs, even with Wen coaxing her and waving treats.

It’s unusual for a dog to refuse to go up the stairs.  Puppies learn to go up first and then as they get more brave, they decide to try to go down a few steps at a time until they can eventually maneuver their way all the way down.  Sadie is just the opposite in that all of a sudden, she is afraid to go up.  Wen thought that maybe she had tripped going up the stairs and she had tumbled down, because of her new fear, but since there’s no way to ask her what happened or what is causing Sadie’s new aversion to the stairs, it’s a mystery.  She has no problem with the deck stairs, but maybe since the wood is a rougher texture on them than the hardwood stairs, she gets better traction outside.  Whatever the reason, Wen hopes that Sadie will make it up the stairs soon, because she has been carrying her up for the last few days and even worse, when Molly and I go upstairs with Wen, Sadie will wail and carry on loudly downstairs until Wen goes and gets her.  The sooner the mystery is solved, the better for all of us!
