Five Years Already?

Has it really been five years already since my banana boat adventure?  It was quite the adventure, meeting mermaids and friendly fish, finding a pirate’s map in a bottle,  sailing the banana boat through a big storm, and following the pirate’s map to look for buried treasure on a beach.  Along the way I met some good friends, we found the treasure, and brought it home to be welcomed by my big sister, Sunny. Those were fun times!

Our Morning Routine

Every morning after we eat and go outside, we Scotties like to snuggle up on the couch, especially if there is a nice plush blanket there or comfy pillows to settle on.  We like to find the most comfortable spot in the room and if Wen is sitting on the couch watching news on the TV, we’re right there to keep her company.

Our early morning routine is pretty much carved in stone.  Since we get up fairly early, we like to start off the day with a nice snooze after we eat and do our business outside. What better way to begin our morning routine?!

Our Favorite Spot

Sadie and I love it when the fireplace is on in the winter and our dog bed is placed in front of it.  It’s our favorite spot because the fireplace radiates heat as we are snuggled up next to it.  What could feel better when temperatures are frigid outside than settling into a plush dog bed in a nice toasty warm spot?!

Static Cling

A Winter Poem by Molly (with a little help from Wen)

When winter comes the temperatures fall.

(We Scotties love the snow and all).

But when it’s freezing, here’s the thing:

We sometimes suffer static cling.

Our lack of moisture and the cold

Can give us hairstyles that are bold.

When we roll on the couch or floor

Our spiky looks you can’t ignore.

To cure the static, here’s the gist:

Just spray us with a watery mist

Before you get into a rush

To work us over with a brush.

And then our goofy look that’s hairy

Will be merely temporary

And it’s just a minor thing

When we develop static cling.

Arctic Blast

Well, the arctic blast has arrived and it’s -12 degrees outside, but with the wind chill, it feels like -27.  We Scotties went bounding outside early this morning like usual, but shortly we were limping around on frozen paws, so Wen picked each one of us up and carried us back inside where it was nice and warm.

As soon as we saw that the fireplace was on, Sadie and I were parked on our dog bed in front of it, soaking up the heat.  Molly rolled around on her back on the rug by the couch and she ended up with a serious case of static cling.

They predict three days of the arctic blast with bitter cold, blustery winds, and snow, so we’ll be hunkering down inside.  We Scotties love the snow, but frozen paws?  Not so much!

Snow Snoopin’

Since we had two snow storms in a row, we Scotties did some serious snoopin’ in the snow in our backyard.  It seems to be that time of the year when the snow never leaves the side of the yard that is facing north, but it tends to become a sheet of ice.  The rest of the yard though is great for making tracks and we Scotties do love to spend time snow snoopin’!

An Unusual Situation

When my sisters hang out together, it’s an unusual situation.  For the better part of eight years, you would rarely see them together, but now that Molly is ten years old and Sadie is eight years old, maybe Molly has finally decided to ease up on her personal space restrictions.

Since it’s winter now and there are always plush throws available on our couch, we have lots of opportunities to rearrange the throws and snuggle up together, which we can’t do other times of the year.  I guess both the girls like stretching out on the throws so much that they have determined that it’s okay to spend a little time together on the couch.  It doesn’t happen very often though!

Bye Bye

Today’s the day that Wen is taking down our Christmas trees and it’s not exactly the same fun anticipation as the day she puts up the trees and decorations each November.  The end of our holiday decorations is always kind of sad, but after everything is put away in storage, the house looks like it’s back to normal and that’s okay.

Bye bye, Christmas trees!  The decorations are already gone and you’re the last to go because you’re our favorites.  See you again next November!
