Colorado’s Next Top Pet Model
So I’m at it again, but this time I’m helping to raise money for a good cause! I entered Colorado’s Next Top Pet Model Calendar Contest, which benefits Colorado Pet Pantry, a nonprofit pet food bank that feeds needy pets in Colorado. Each dollar donated is worth $5 in pet food and will help to temporarily feed Colorado pets, keeping them out of shelters and with their families.
To vote for me in the contest, ($5 minimum), search Colorado’s Next Top Pet Model Calendar Contest and THANK YOU on behalf of hungry pets across our state! (Contest ends May 31).
Scottie Eyes
Scottie eyes are very expressive and believe me, they’re watching you. They see your every move, like the song says.
Some of us Scotties have black haircoats that seem to show off our eyes even more because of the contrast between light and dark and my sister, Sadie is a fine example!
Yes, We’re Avs Fans!
If there’s any doubt, yes, we’re Avs fans! We love hockey at our house and we especially love the Colorado Avalanche! Playoff hockey is the best, so Go Avs Go!!!
Drying Out
Not only has our basement been drying out from the air blasters running constantly for days in the areas that flooded from our water heater disaster, but the rain we’ve been having is ceasing and we’re just beginning to dry out outside too. Unfortunately, it’s still dreary though, so a little sunshine would certainly be appreciated.
We Scotties would like a nice warm day to cruise around the yard instead of a soggy situation, because Wen doesn’t seem to be pleased when we track in muddy paw prints!
No Hot Water Until Thursday?
Disaster struck! Our water heater burst and ruined our finished basement the other night. Wen turned on the hot water upstairs and it was scalding, so she went to the basement to see if something was wrong with the water heater and there was three inches of water in the utility closet and the water had flooded the carpet in the family room. The baseboards were soaked and there was drywall damage also.
Wen was up practically all night, trying to soak up water, but the water heater just kept leaking, so she was fighting a losing battle and when the water damage company guy came to assess the damage, he found quite a lot.
Fortunately, Wen was able to get a plumber out quickly to take out the water heater and the water damage guy spent the entire afternoon working on getting water out of the carpet and removing baseboards. He set up ten gigantic air blasters to begin the subfloor drying process, which are still on and are very loud, so we Scotties have been very curious what’s happening in the basement.
We had to spend a lot of time upstairs in a bedroom with workmen going in and out and Sadie sort of freaked out initially and started barking because of all the commotion, but she quickly calmed down. Strangers in the house seem to upset her, not to mention all the noise!
After the workmen left, we Scotties ran around to try to see what had happened, but since the basement was all torn up and the air blasters were on, Wen had closed the door to the basement, which was a good thing, since those air blasters would have really freaked out Sadie!
We have to wait three more days to get our new water heater so the floors completely dry out, which means no hot water until Thursday. Then, carpet, tile, and baseboards will have to be replaced and walls will have to be repaired and painted, so that means more strangers for us Scotties to endure. After all, it’s our job to guard our territory!
Playoffs Time
It’s Stanley Cup playoffs time again and since we’re huge Colorado Avalanche fans at our house, we have watched the first two Avs games and cheered them on. Our Avs decorations are in place and once again, we are experiencing the exciting highs and disappointing lows of the playoffs.
The Avs won the Stanley Cup last year, but they are not the same team this year, although playoff hockey is the best hockey of the season with thrilling games that are almost excruciating to watch.
Yep, we love our Avs hockey! That comeback from behind win last night was awesome! Go Avs Go!!!
Cold Tootsies
We Scotties woke up to a coating of snow that was frozen to the deck and the grass. We went from yesterday’s nice warm weather to cold tootsies today as our feet touched icy surfaces. Colorado weather is just crazy this time of year! We never know what to expect!
Crazy Hat Day
Years ago, the Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club hosted several picnics each year where the members brought their dogs. These picnics combined club meetings with an event with a special theme, such as Halloween parades, crazy hats, and honoring deceased Scotties.
One year for the crazy hat picnic, Wen found silly-looking hats with noodles coming out of them at a flea market for Kirby and Sunny. The hats were so ridiculous that she couldn’t resist and she bought them and altered them to fit Scottie heads.
A photographer took pictures at the crazy hat picnic and one photo of Sunny in her noodle hat was such a favorite that it ended up being featured in the club’s annual calendar.
Crunchy Grass
Our sprinkler guy showed up when it was in the 80’s to turn on our sprinkler system, but it turned cold shortly after he was here and when the sprinklers ran early this morning, water droplets froze on the grass. We Scotties woke up to slippery icy steps on the deck and a frosty-looking icy coating on the grass. When we walked on the grass, it was crunchy from the ice and until the sun hits the entire yard and melts all the ice, I guess we will be crunching our way across the grass.
Just when you think that spring has finally settled in, you get hit with crunchy grass!
