Fall Color

The trees and bushes are turning colors in our backyard, so we have some beautiful yellows and reds right now. Wen’s favorite is one of the burning bushes that turns brilliant shades of red each fall.

That particular bush is in the area that is fenced off so that the grass can grow without us Scotties digging holes, but whenever a section of the fence is removed during yard work, I like to sneak over there and snoop around…..until I get caught! Someone doesn’t appreciate it when I mark my territory over there!

I Won!!!

We received some amazing news this week!  At the suggestion of one of her Scottie club friends, Wen entered my photo in Up Country’s Up for Stardom photo contest weeks ago and there were three chances to win.  One winner was chosen by the number of online votes and the company chose the other two winners.   All the entrants’ photos could be shared on social media, so Wen shared the photos on several sites and after the voting ended, we received an email that I had won the most votes!  What?!  I won!!!

Not only did I win a gift certificate for Up Country’s super dog products, but I won a professional photo shoot with some of their products and I will be featured in their 2023 catalog!  They have some really top quality collars, leashes, and dog coats, so I should be stylin’ and I even get to keep the products they send me to pose with for the pictures.

The surprising number of votes my photo received just goes to show you how Scottie folks are loyal to their breed.  Yep, Scottie folks are the best!

That’s Us!

Who are those good-looking Scotties?  Hey, that’s us!  We spent the day at Gigi’s groom shop and had our usual “spa treatments.”  Okay, we all got brushed, a bath, and a haircut, but whatever you call it, we went in scruffy and came out looking like a million bucks!

Wen loves it when we’re freshly groomed, because not only do we look good, but we smell sweetly of doggie cologne.  Too bad our gorgeous looks don’t deter us Scotties from digging holes and rolling in stinky spots in the yard, but at least we look good while we’re having fun being terriers!  I guess our doggie cologne is kind of like new car smell:  it smells great at first, but it doesn’t last forever!

Whew!

We had a couple of anxious days this week.  We Scotties are scheduled to go to our groomer tomorrow and typically a few days before a grooming appointment, Wen brushes our haircoats really well to get rid of the dead hair and any tangles, so we go to Gigi, our groomer in decent condition.

As she was back brushing Molly’s thick coat, Wen noticed a dime-sized lump on Molly’s back by the base of her tail.  The lump had a crusty scab and was bleeding, because the wire slicker brush had probably hit it during the brushing session.  Naturally, this happened during the weekend, so Wen had to wait a couple of days before she could take Molly to our vet for cytology, but after some needle aspirates of the lump cells and viewing the cells under the microscope, our vet gave Wen good news:  the lump was a benign histiocytoma.  That was exactly what Wen was hoping for, but you never know, because it could have also been a malignant mast cell tumor, which terriers like to grow, so that was extremely good news!  Whew, what a huge relief!  All the prior histiocytomas on us Scotties through the years have gone away on their own, so we are all doing the happy dance for Molly.  With any luck, in a few months, her histiocytoma will also disappear and be history.  Cross your fingers!

Quality Control

All of our donations to the Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club Annual Auction go through quality control.  This is especially important for the handmade items, so the supervisor (or the snoopervisor in my case) is responsible for checking each item.  Yep, since I am a nosy Scottie, I like to check out the items after Wen has gone over each one.  We want our donations to be in tip top condition, so it seems logical that two supervisors, or in our case, one supervisor and one snoopervisor are better than one!

Auction Time

It’s that time again!  The Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club Annual Auction to support Scottie Rescue is only nine days away.  Wen has been going through Scottie items for the last week to choose donations for the auction and she finally has everything organized.  Besides the birdhouse that she made, there’s a children’s book, a plush throw, and two big baskets chock full of Scottie items, both vintage and modern.

Somebody had to be on hand to supervise the organization process and that somebody was me.  After all, who’s more qualified to supervise Scottie items than a Scottie?!  Let’s hope the donations will be popular with the bidders and the proceeds will be a great help to the rescue Scotties.

Sunny Spots

Sunny spots are the best!  We Scotties are always seeking out the sunny spots that are created when the sun shines in through our windows in the mornings.  There’s something comforting about sitting or lying in the sun and the warmth feels good on our haircoats, especially during cold winter days.

It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is though, because we seek out sunny spots all year round.  Maybe it’s not just for the warmth.  Maybe we like feeling that we are in the sun’s spotlight!

We Like Pillows!

Since we Scotties spend a lot of time relaxing on the couch, it seems natural that we would put the couch throw pillows to good use.  After all, they are comfortable to lay on and most of them are just the right thickness to rest our big Scottie heads on.

Molly prefers to stretch out on top of a pillow while Sadie and I like to lay next to pillows and prop our noses on top of them.  The fact that pillows are soft and squishy makes them seem like little plush crate pads, so every chance we get, we Scotties stake a claim on them and each time a new one appears, we have to totally check it out.

I suppose you could say that we like pillows a lot.  Not only are they functional, but super comfy!

Sadie: Hey, I was chillin’!
