Nothing much gets past us Scotties. Why? Because we’re pretty much always watching what goes on around us. Just when you think we’re asleep or not paying attention, think again! Scottie eyes are watching you!

The Huge Thing
There’s a huge thing in our living room and it’s been there for years. Sometimes, Wen sits down by it and music comes out of it, which we Scotties seem to enjoy, because we always end up on the couch, listening until she gets up and leaves and the music stops.
The huge thing is so large that we Scotties can easily walk underneath it and we constantly do. It sure takes up a lot of room, but that’s okay. We’re so used to it that we avoid running into it and hey, it would be weird if it wasn’t there anymore. Plus, it’s nice to hear the music every once in awhile!
DOGust 1st
It’s August 1, also known as DOGust 1st, the universal birthday for shelter dogs. Since most shelter dogs’ birthdays are unknown, today is the day that has been designated the special day to celebrate them.
Adopting a dog from a shelter gives that dog a new home, a fresh start, and a new lease on life and our family’s one and only adopted shelter dog, Frosty, was very appreciative. She had been in two different shelters before Wen spotted her in a cage at Petsmart, waiting to see if anyone would want to give her a home and she didn’t even look like a Scottie with her bad haircut. As a matter of fact, her breed was listed as Cairn/ Westie mix, but Wen, a seasoned Scottie owner, knew a Scottie when she saw one and after no one had adopted the shy little wheaten-colored dog and the shelter person was due to pick her up, Wen filled out adoption papers and took her home.
Wen chose the name “Frosty” because she had named her first wheaten Scottie “Frosty” and it just seemed like the perfect thing to do. The newly named Frosty got along perfectly with Wen’s two wheaten Scotties, Kirby and Sunny and she flourished in her new home. As time went on and with grooming from a master groomer, Frosty looked like the Scottie she was. The three wheaten Scotties were quite the happy trio and Wen never regretted bringing the shy little shelter dog with the bad haircut home.
So Happy Birthday to all the shelter dogs on your special day and here’s hoping that each and every one of you gets a happy new home!
Silly Face
“Oh, no! Riley, did you dig that brand new hole? With that silly face you sure look like the guilty party!”
Goofy Glasses
The dollar store is always a good source for goofy glasses and goofy glasses make for fun pictures. That’s why we Scotties can expect our pictures to be taken after Wen visits the dollar store. She usually comes home with her latest goofy glasses finds and that means we get to model them. Lucky us—more goofy glasses!
We’re Dogs!
Every morning, we Scotties patrol our backyard. Our routine is that first we do our business and then we cruise around and make sure that everything is in order. We check out anything that looks different or out of place in the yard and then we scout for squirrels and sniff out the best places to dig holes and see if we can snarf up any stray pieces of landscaping bark.
Our hole digging is a constant issue, because we start by pulling up little clumps of grass with our teeth and then when we’ve created a bare spot, we dig until we get caught. Since we’re terriers, we’re so fast at digging that we can do some major damage very quickly, which irks Wen and is a constant source of frustration, since she has to constantly repair the holes.
The fact that we like to chew on pieces of landscaping bark is another one of our not so good habits that we can’t seem to break. The bark is nice and crunchy, so we really enjoy chewing on it, but the problem is that we swallow little pieces and they could potentially cause an intestinal blockage that would require surgery, so Wen accompanies us when we go outside in order to interrupt our bark chewing and hole digging, not to mention that if Sadie starts barking, she can hush her up. In other words, she is there to keep an eye on us when we act like dogs. Here’s the thing though, we act like dogs because we’re dogs!
New Hat
Like my new hat? Wen saw it when she was shopping and she thought that I needed it. It seems that my hat wardrobe is always expanding, but that’s okay. I like hats!
Okay, let’s play ball!
The Faces of Sadie
My little sister, Sadie, has just as many facial expressions as Molly and I do, but they’re harder to see, due to her dark hair coat. Sometimes, though, the lighting is perfect and Wen can get some good pictures of Sadie and those photos are keepers!
Scottie Summer Fun
What’s a Scottie to do for a little summer fun? How about some backyard camping!
Heat Wave
We’re having a heat wave and we Scotties spend most of our time in the backyard in the early mornings and in the evenings. We lounge around in our house during the day and take advantage of the cool hardwood and tile floors, where we like to stretch out for our naps during the summer.
We also enjoy the nice breezes from the ceiling fans and crunching on crushed ice is one of our favorite treats on hot summer days. There’s nothing like a drink of cool water or a mouth full of crushed ice to hit the spot!
Needless to say, unless we’re going to see Gigi, our groomer, car rides are out of the question on hot summer days. Yep, we’re pretty much couch potatoes during a heat wave, but rattle that treat jar and we’re instantly on the move!
