It’s nice outside and since I was recently given a warmup jacket that someone donated to Scottie rescue, it’s time to get some exercise. The water bottle is filled and my short little legs could use a good workout, so let’s go for a run!

Scottie See, Scottie Do
Since Sadie first made herself at home on the back of the couch, she has been spending a lot of time up there. Evidently, she’s not the only one of us Scotties who has been inspired to jump up and stretch out up there, because once Molly noticed Sadie jumping to new heights to make herself comfortable, she had to try it also. Who would have thought that Molly would ever imitate anything that Sadie does, but just like monkey see, monkey do, at our house, it’s Scottie see, Scottie do and now Molly is also enjoying relaxing at new heights.
The Snuggler
I’ll admit it—I’m a snuggler. Lots of Scotties prefer to keep their distance and would never be caught snuggling up to their favorite person on the couch, but that’s not me. Every time Wen sits on the couch, it’s only a matter of time until I jump up beside her and scooch up right next to her and sometimes I rest my head on her and use her for a pillow. Evidently she doesn’t mind that I like to snuggle, because she says that I’m the first Scottie out of eleven who has been a snuggler and she seems to like it, even when I fall asleep on her or next to her. Guess there’s nothing wrong with being a snuggler Scottie!
Colorful Scotties!
We Scotties are colorful dogs! Not only do we come in a variety of colors (varieties of black, brindle, and wheaten), but if I do say so myself, we have colorful personalities. Yep, as far as dogs go, we’re pretty darn colorful!
Crazy Beard
My sister, Molly, loves to rub her nose on the couch. Maybe she’s scratching her nose when it’s itchy or maybe she’s wiping her beard after she eats or gets a drink of water, but either way, she seems to enjoy a robust nose rubbing session.
Each time that Molly goes through her nose rubbing ritual, she ends up with the craziest looking beard. The hair sticks out every which way and sometimes, her beard is affected by static cling from a particularly vigorous nose rubbing and in that case, she really gets a crazy beard with the hair sticking straight out from her muzzle. Then, my sister who is known for her beauty, looks like a tornado blew past her nose, but Molly doesn’t care that her beard looks crazy, because that nose rubbing felt good and hit the spot!
“Double Decker Couch”
Now that my sisters have discovered that they can jump on the back of our couch, they are enjoying sitting and stretching out up there. Usually it’s Sadie who is up on the back of the couch, because she is the smallest of us Scotties and she can jump up there easily, but Molly has always seemed to have springs in her legs to jump up higher than the rest of us, so when she noticed that Sadie could jump up on the back of the couch, she had to do it also.
Since the girls are now lying on the couch as well as using the back of the couch, it has turned into what we like to call a “double decker couch” and we have even more options in how we use it to relax. Well, at least my sisters do. You won’t catch me trying to hop up on the back of the couch any time soon!
The Black Shadow
Ever since she realized that she could jump up on the back of the couch, Sadie has been seen making herself comfortable up there. Especially when there is a comfy plush throw on the back of the couch, Sadie will hop up, rearrange it until she has it perfect spot to lay on, and then she stretches out and looks down on the rest of us from her perch.
In dim light, Sadie kind of looks like a Scottie-shaped black shadow up there, so she now officially has a new name to add to her list of nicknames: the Black Shadow.
Freshly Groomed
We Scotties always look so nice when we’re freshly groomed. Not only does our hair look nearly perfect, but we’re squeaky clean and we smell pretty, thanks to doggie cologne from our groomer. Of course, what do we do as soon as we get home from the groom shop? We go out in our backyard and look for a spot to dig a hole or eat dirt. Yep, looking freshly groomed is way more important to our humans than us Scotties, so enjoy it while it lasts!
Big Scottie Noses
Let’s face it—we Scotties have good-sized noses (no brachycephalic dogs here) and what do you do with a good-sized nose? You find a comfortable place to rest it. You look for a nice pillow to lay next to so you can prop your nose up on it or you settle on the couch by the arm so you can rest your nose on the arm. Maybe you have a plush comfy dog bed to stretch out on like we do and it has sides that are just the right height to support your nose.
A big Scottie nose deserves a nice cushiony spot and Sadie quickly discovered that our dog bed is her favorite place to snooze. Not only is it right by the fireplace, but it is just the right size for her to stretch out fully and rest her nose on the side and that’s something that due to our size, neither Molly nor I can do!
Snoopin’ and Sniffin’
What do we Scotties do every time it snows? We explore our backyard to plow new paths, and basically go snoopin’ and sniffin’.
Our favorite thing is to dig holes in the snow until we hit dirt and then the real digging starts, because we Scotties are professional hole diggers and digging up wet ground is a special treat to us. Believe me, the pot holes we create in our yard don’t exactly earn us any good behavior points from Wen, but we just can’t help ourselves. A whole backyard of pristine snow is just too much for us to resist and before you know it, holes will magically spring up everywhere, thanks to our snoopin’ and sniffin’!
