Goin’ Fishin’

I had a dream that I was on a vacation at a mountain cabin and I was goin’ fishin’.  Can you imagine?  Did I have too many snacks before bed or do I subconsciously really want a vacation?  Either way, at least I caught a fish in my dream and it was a whopper!

Obsessed

Molly and I are obsessed with digging holes in our backyard.  Whenever Wen takes us out there, as soon as she turns her back, we go to work and by the time she turns back around, there are new holes in the ground.

Why do we like to dig?  We’re Scottish TERRIERS and it’s instinct because Terrier means earth dog.  Okay, we also like to eat dirt and when we sniff out an interesting spot in the grass, we’ll start digging there and snacking on dirt.  Sadie, however, doesn’t have our urge to dig holes, but she is a big time dirt and mulch eater, which also is a no-no.

Wen thinks our digging habit is annoying since she has to repair the holes, but we persist until we get caught in the act.  You’d think that getting in trouble for digging would be a deterrent, but no, we’ve gotten reprimanded so many times that it’s no big deal to us anymore.  Meanwhile, we’ll keep on digging.  You can’t take the instinct out of the dog!

Back to School Time

Here it is, back to school time for the kiddos.  It doesn’t exactly affect us Scotties, but I suppose it never hurts to have a refresher course in practicing dog obedience, considering that it’s been quite a few years since my basic obedience class.

Since we Scotties are an independent breed, learning commands doesn’t come naturally for us, because we aren’t those eager to please dogs and we like to do what WE like to do!  I guess that knowing obedience commands and being a well-mannered dog is a good thing though, so maybe for us, it’s back to obedience time!

A Rare Find

Every once in a while, Wen visits an antique mall to look for Scottie-themed items.  She started collecting in 1978 when she got her first Scottie, so she has quite a collection, even though she has donated lots of items to the yearly Scottie club fundraiser.

Her latest find was an oil painting of a Scottie that had an old ugly frame, but she bought it anyway and had a new frame made for it.

Paintings and prints of Scotties are rare finds and this colorful painting looks nice and updated in its new frame.  Job well done!

Back to School

Here we are once again, the time of the year when the kids go back to school.  It seems like they go back to class in the middle of the summer anymore and that they just finished school for last year.  Wow, it’s kind of hard to believe that school’s back in session already.  Time really does fly!

Molly’s Morning Watch

Early in the morning when we Scotties go outside, you can find Molly on our deck, surveying the backyard.  She likes to be up high where she has a good view of our yard and the top of the fence where the squirrels like to run back and forth.

Molly’s morning watch has kind of become a ritual, so it must be her favorite way to start the day.  I guess she likes to keep track of the birds, squirrels, and butterflies as they pass through.  We Scotties do like to be in charge of our territory!

USA, USA!!!

We have been watching and cheering for our athletes at the Paris Olympics.  Many of the events have been really exciting and hearing the chants of USA, USA make us feel proud of our athletes and our country.  Best of luck to the United States athletes!  We’re pulling for you and hopefully all those years of dedication and training will bring you success!  USA, USA!!!

Bargain!

Sometimes when Wen is shopping, she comes across bargains that she just can’t resist and that includes things for us Scotties.  We never know when she is going to come home with a toy or something cute for us that would make a good photo op.

Her most recent find was a Gap doggie dress on clearance for four dollars that looked as if it would fit Sadie perfectly, so she got it and yes, it did fit Sadie perfectly.  I guess we Scotties are lucky that Wen is always thinking of us when she goes shopping and that she always peruses the dog supplies.  Can’t wait to see the next bargain!
