For a few years, Wen shared a townhouse and her two Scotties, Duffy and Corky, were left loose in the house during the day while everyone was at work.
One day when she came home for lunch to let the dogs out, Corky made a mad dash out the front door into the street. Wen called her frantically, knowing that they lived only a half-block from a busy street which led to an intersection of a major thoroughfare.
Corky ran like the wind in the direction of the busy street, totally ignoring Wen, who was chasing after her. No matter how many times Wen called her, Corky kept running and finally, out of sheer desperation, Wen abruptly stopped, turned around, and started walking back to the townhouse.
Corky, who never missed anything, noticed that she wasn’t being pursued any more and she watched Wen walk toward their townhouse and began to follow her.
Wen saw what was happening and as Corky caught up with her, she lunged at her dog, grabbed her, and took her inside.
Having the dogs loose in the house during the day probably wasn’t a great idea and it definitely wasn’t worth potentially losing a dog’s life from an escape attempt, so from then on, Duffy and Corky spent the day in their big wire cages and no one made a run for it ever again.
