One of the “bonuses” of living in Texas was an over abundance of fleas and ticks. It seemed as though no matter how many times that Wen and her husband treated their yard, the persistent little parasites remained.
Every night, Wen did flea and tick patrol on Casey, Buffy, and Poo, picking off all of the critters that she could find that were hiding in their haircoats. If she hadn’t checked them over nightly, not only would they have ended up with critters in their carpet, but Casey, who was allergic to fleas, would have scratched most of his hair off and been totally miserable.
Flea and tick patrol was not a fun task, but it was a necessary one and Wen became a skilled exterminator by squishing fleas and popping ticks with her fingers. Nothing was more important than keeping her dogs comfortable, healthy, and free of parasites.
