When they brought Casey home as a little puppy in Dallas, Wen and her husband thought that he needed a backyard shelter so they decided to look for a suitable doghouse for him.
One day, they were shopping at a huge hardware/building supply store and Wen spotted the perfect doghouse. It was unusual, it was cute, and it would look good in the backyard: a little red barn doghouse. Since it was the perfect size for Casey, they bought it for him and found a spot for it in the backyard.
The red barn doghouse was a MacDuff clan favorite for many years, but out of the five dogs who used it, Casey spent the most time in it. He had pretty much claimed the red barn as his house.
You could say that the red barn was a traveling doghouse because it moved along with the family from Texas to Colorado (where it resided at three different houses) and then to Missouri.
Eventually, after about fifteen years, although it had been repainted several times, the red barn began to look a little shabby and since the dogs weren’t using it anymore, Wen put it out on the curb with the trash. Within a few minutes, the doorbell rang and a man asked if she would mind if he took it for his dog.
Wen was happy to send the red barn on to a new home where it would continue to be used and appreciated. She had a sentimental attachment to it and now it would have a new life.
