We love our fenced backyard!

We are fortunate to have a nice fenced backyard where we live, but it has definitely not always been the case.

In Texas, Wen and her husband moved into a newly-built home from their apartment and not only did it not have a fence, but it didn’t have any grass either.  They wanted to get a dog as soon as they moved in, but without a fence and with an alley behind their property, it seemed like a good idea to wait until they put in a yard and built a fence.

It was a good plan, but of course, they didn’t stick to it and after a few months when the grass had grown, they brought a Scottie puppy home and had to walk him on a leash until the fence was built a few months later.

When Wen moved to Missouri with Casey, Buffy, and Poo, again their backyard was not fenced.  Walking three dogs outside on a leash multiple times each day was a chore and it was great news when she found out that part of the yard was going to be fenced in for a spa, which would provide a good-sized fenced area for the dogs.

The years that she lived in her Colorado apartment were definitely Wen’s biggest challenge though, because walking Kirby and Sunny (and then Frosty too) outside from an upstairs apartment and hoping to avoid any uncontrolled dogs were not exactly fun times.  Wen ended up taking the dogs to the veterinary clinic where she worked as it was easier and safer to walk them in the greenbelt area behind the clinic during the day.

Moving with three dogs to a house with a fenced backyard again was a bonus for everybody.  Wen doesn’t have to worry about running into strange dogs anymore and the convenience of letting the dogs out without having to accompany them is really appreciated—especially when it snows!
