Every morning, we Scotties patrol our backyard. Our routine is that first we do our business and then we cruise around and make sure that everything is in order. We check out anything that looks different or out of place in the yard and then we scout for squirrels and sniff out the best places to dig holes and see if we can snarf up any stray pieces of landscaping bark.
Our hole digging is a constant issue, because we start by pulling up little clumps of grass with our teeth and then when we’ve created a bare spot, we dig until we get caught. Since we’re terriers, we’re so fast at digging that we can do some major damage very quickly, which irks Wen and is a constant source of frustration, since she has to constantly repair the holes.
The fact that we like to chew on pieces of landscaping bark is another one of our not so good habits that we can’t seem to break. The bark is nice and crunchy, so we really enjoy chewing on it, but the problem is that we swallow little pieces and they could potentially cause an intestinal blockage that would require surgery, so Wen accompanies us when we go outside in order to interrupt our bark chewing and hole digging, not to mention that if Sadie starts barking, she can hush her up. In other words, she is there to keep an eye on us when we act like dogs. Here’s the thing though, we act like dogs because we’re dogs!
